Is There a Crisis Pregnancy Center in Your Neighborhood?
Crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) are anti-choice organizations that target women facing an unintended pregnancy. While many centers advertise to offer "all options counseling”, their true goal is to stop women from using most types of birth control and choosing abortion. Research shows that CPCs often use false and misleading information to reach this goal.

CPC's can be hard to spot. They typically have names, like Pregnancy Resource Center, and often use deceptive advertising that can lead women to believe they offer a full range of reproductive health services. The practices below are signs to help you know if a center is a CPC. If you are looking for neutral, medically accurate information about pregnancy & birth control, you should be cautious of centers that:
- List their facilities under "Abortion Alternatives";
- Give evasive answers when you ask for abortion services or referrals over the phone;
- Advertise free services, especially pregnancy tests or ultrasounds;
- Encourage you to come in immediately and repeatedly for a pregnancy test or counseling ;
- Want you to have an ultrasound when it is not medically needed;
- Refuse to refer you to an abortion provider;
- Pressure you into choosing abstinence over birth control or refuse to tell you where you can get birth control;
- Tell you that abortion causes breast cancer or mental illness, which medical and scientific experts say is not true.
