Statement on the withdrawal of the nomination of Day Gardner
Statement from Diana Philip, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland, regarding the withdrawal of the nomination of Day Gardner to the Maryland State Board of Physicians:
"We are pleased that Governor Hogan has withdrawn the nomination of anti-choice activist Day Gardner to the Maryland Board of Physicians. In less than 24 hours, NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland supporters sent over 250 emails and phone calls to their Senators and to Governor Hogan opposing this nomination.
"Maryland has had longtime support for access to the full range of sexual and reproductive healthcare, so we were extremely disappointed and offended at such an alarmingly inappropriate appointment to the Maryland Board of Physicians. As the swift response of Marylanders in holding their Senators and Governor accountable for this nomination demonstrates, Marylanders are overwhelmingly pro-choice and demand better from their representatives.
"NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland will remain vigilant and will always work to defend reproductive freedom, at every level, in Maryland. We are grateful for the support and assistance of the Women's Law Center of Maryland and other allies to the hundreds of Marylanders who took action"
